New park

The transformation of the former ruined cemetery into a park with play equipment for children will transform the forgotten transit garden into a place of active rest for all generations. The design is based on three basic principles - activating the park interface, allowing freer movement around its area and adding new elements to existing buildings. The project was created in collaboration with an architect, landscape architect and artist on the basis of a winning architectural competition. The new park in Leopoldov was opened to the public in 2019.

The original fencing along the Hlohovská road was newly installed behind the level of the chapel, the extended sidewalk, the so-called piazzetta, created a more generous entrance to the park. The new park is understood as one large shady playground. All shrubs and other barrier trees were removed. The historical layer has been preserved from the originally cemetery buildings. The chapel became the dominant feature of the piazzetta, crosses on both sides of the original alley continue to mark the entrances to the park. Handmade tombstones were exhibited in the new lapidary at the entrance of the piazzetta. The new park in Leopoldov was enriched mainly by new ready-made buildings made of industrially produced elements. They represent an economical alternative to the production of atypes and, unlike typical game elements, they offer a unique solution calling for the discovery and development of children's imagination.
